2011 Curtis Syrah

A few years ago, maybe 3ish, the Curtis Syrah was my definite favorite mid-price Syrah. I think it was sneaking just under $20 then. I remember introducing it to one of my wine mentors. I he remarked that it had what the French call "foot". I guess I'd call it soil. I get a really definite sense of place from this wine. So here's the 2011 version, a few years later, and it's clear that the winemakers have tried to stay true to this foot or soil sense. In fact, their label says, among other things, that this wine has "structure and a true sense of place". It's clocking in at $21 at Lazy Acres at this point, but I think this may prove, once again, to be my favorite middle of the price-road Syrah. It's a relief that something's stayed the same -- the last three years have been a real turmoil in every other sense!

Municipal Winemakers spring shipment -- Bright Red takes it!

Our Club Awesome shipment from Muni was the '12 Bright Red, '13 Bright White and '13 Pale Pink. We loved them all, but the Bright Red actually had us sorta mumbling with happiness. My last shipment was wasted on folks who didn't appreciate it, and, actually, travelled in a very cold truck bed to get there, so it may have been ruined even before then. So it was nice to get back into a Muni wine that we really loved. This may be the first red we'll buy more of and bank for the next few years. The label says it should be good in the next ~7. We shall see...

Jaffurs 2011 (?) Syrah

One of Lou's "Lou Likes" recommendations from Lazy Acres. Nevertheless, either Lou and I have different taste in Syrah, or I'm growing out of my Syrah rabies. It was good, paired with pasta and tomato meat sauce, but not exceptional. On the other hand, the bottle of wine was finished, between the two of us, well before we were out of pasta. So maybe that's your clue there...
Not 100% on the year, btw, and I already chucked the bottle.
